Paediatrics has formed a specialised subject in Chinese medicine since the Song dynasty (960-1279). Chinese doctors recognized the differences between children and adults in diagnosis and treatment, and skilfully adapted their methods to the treatment of children. Their clinical experience is reported in many textbooks.

I first used acupuncture on children when my own started on their childhood illnesses, and since then I have had a special interest in this field.

Paediatric Acupuncture is designed to support the physical and emotional wellbeing of babies, children and teenagers effectively. Diagnostic methods for children are very specific and involve both needling and non-insertive methods. Treatment involves gentle stimulation of specific acupuncture points and body areas using a variety of instruments. Children's internal energy is situated right at the surface of the skin, it can be affected with a very gentle treatment techniques. The theory of acupuncture views the body as an integrated energetic system of meridians through which vital energy flows. Stimulation along these meridians can strengthen the immune system and help a child grow into a healthy adult.
Paediatric acupuncture can be used as preventative method as well as treating variety of different childhood diseases. Acupuncture for children has helped with a wide range of ailments, from skin conditions to coughs and colds, from digestive issues to bedwetting, from headaches to the effects of ADHD and much more. Acupuncture is a safe alternative to pharmaceuticals that many parents do not want their children taking. Increasingly more parents are turning to acupuncture as an effective and necessary method of re-establishing and maintaining health within their children’s constitution.
